The Conservatives presented a petition at the Council meeting on the 23rd February 2011 asking for the propaganda freesheet East End Life to be scrapped. Each year it costs us £1.5 million to provide a free pubilicity service for the controlling power in the Town Hall. The only legal requirement that East End Life fulfils is to publish public notices, the cost of which would only be a few hundred thousand pounds a year rather than the present £1.5 million.
Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government is bringing into force new guidelines which will become law, preventing Town Hall propaganda sheets being produced at taxpayers expense in their present form. They will only be allowed to produce them on a quarterly basis and their content will be restricted to being directly related to council services.
Yet despite this Mayor Rahman is continuing to spend our money on the EEL, his propaganda tool, and has also now set up a review to see how he can get around the guidance, spending even more of our money.
We call on you Mayor Rahman to stop spending our money on your propaganda machine now and abolish East End Life.
