Public Life, the former public toilet sold off in mysterious circumstances by the council on Commercial Street, has long blighted Christchurch Spitalfields and the most prominent thoroughfare in our area.
Residents have been complaining about its flouting of licensing laws for many years. The Police raided the club before Christmas and found drugs all over the club including on the staff. Residents saw security staff on the door being led away in hand cuffs.
A review of the license has now concluded in favour of revoking the club’s license. Tower Hamlets Conservatives have been leading the fight to let local residents stand up to overdevelopment - by moving Council meetings around the borough, rather than being held consistently in our inaccessible Town Hall on the edges of Poplar.
Welcoming the closure of Public Life, local Spitalfields resident Philip Vracas said: “Local Conservatives have campaigned so that licensing and planning meetings that affect Spitalfields should be should be accessible to people living here – not held miles away in Poplar like they are now”.
