Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Matt Smith has welcomed new figures showing 2,181 fewer people in Bethnal Green and Bow claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance compared to 2010 - a 43 per cent fall. This means more people with the security of a job and a regular pay packet.
People are getting off benefits and into work across London, with 489,000 more people in work compared to the last election.
Nationally there are now a record 30.80 million people in work, with 1.75 million more people in work since 2010.
Matt Smith said: “It’s great news that 2,181 fewer people in Bethnal Green and Bow are relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance to get by. This is a clear sign that the Conservatives' long-term economic plan is working – helping people get off benefits and into work”.
“This is happening because we’ve been backing businesses to create more jobs with lower taxes and better infrastructure, and fixing the welfare system to make sure work pays”.
“This means a better future for families in Bethnal Green and Bow, as more people have the financial security and self-respect that comes with a good job and a regular pay-packet”.
"Our Association recently organised a Jobs Clinic for local residents and if I am elected as the Member of Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow on 7 May 2015, I will organise an annual Jobs Fare in our constituency, brining local employers and employers from the City of London to Bethnal Green and Bow, to better enable local job seekers to get their foot on the jobs ladder".
Matt also recently visited a forum of stakeholders in Whitechapel concerned to boost business growth and skill promotion. Matt said: "Small business growth is a major driver of employment in Bethnal Green and Bow and as your MP I would make sure small businesses in our constituency continue to receive the support they need to expand and create jobs".
